Safeguarding
Keeping your child safe
Who teaches your child, how classes are run, and what to do if something worries you.
Last updated: 1 November 2026
In short
- Every tutor passes an ID check, a police check and an interview with a demo lesson before their first lesson.
- Lessons happen only in our online classroom, never on private apps or phone calls.
- Tutors and children never share phone numbers, emails or social media.
- Any worry you raise is taken seriously and looked at quickly.
Every tutor is checked before teaching
- ID check: we see the tutor’s government photo ID on a video call and confirm it is them.
- Police check: a criminal record check from the country where the tutor lives, for example a Police Character Certificate in Nigeria, a Vulnerable Sector Check in Canada, or a DBS check in the UK.
- Interview and demo lesson: a video interview and a short lesson, so we see how they teach and how they speak to children.
A tutor who has not passed all three does not teach.
How classes are run
- Every lesson is in our online classroom, opened with the Join button in your Student & Parent Login. Tutors never ask children to move to another app.
- Children join with their first name only.
- Tutors never ask for or give phone numbers, emails, social media or addresses. Our system also removes contact details from tutors’ lesson notes automatically and tells us.
- All classes are recorded for safety and quality assurance and kept for 90 days. Our team can view them; on Flex plans, parents and students can also rewatch their lessons for 30 days after each class. Tutors cannot open recordings; students watch only their own classes, with a code emailed to their parent.
- For a Private 1-On-1 lesson, you are always welcome to sit nearby.
What we expect from every tutor
- Be kind, patient and respectful, with language suitable for children.
- Teach with the camera on, in a quiet, suitable place.
- No contact with children outside the lesson, and no private messages.
- No photos, screenshots or recordings of children.
- No gifts, and no meetings in person.
- Tell us straight away about anything about a child that worries you.
Report a concern
If anything a tutor or another learner says or does worries you or your child, email info@classof5.com with “Safeguarding” in the subject, or message us on WhatsApp. You do not need to be sure: we would rather hear about it.
If a child is in danger right now, call your local emergency number first: 911 in Canada and the United States, 999 in the UK, 112 in Nigeria and Europe.
What we do
- We take every concern seriously and look into it quickly.
- While we look into it, the tutor may be taken off their classes.
- We keep you informed, and we tell the authorities when the law requires it or a child may be at risk.
